Maple Backup is a free Chrome extension that quietly keeps dated snapshots of your bookmarks in the background, so an accidental deletion, a bad sync, or a wiped profile never has to mean losing them for good.

What it does

• Automatically saves a snapshot of your bookmarks on a schedule you choose — every 1 to 7 days.
• Keeps a browsable history of past backups, so you can look back at what your bookmarks looked like on any saved date.
• Lets you restore any past snapshot back into your browser, or download it as a standalone HTML file at any time.
• Optionally mirrors every backup to a folder in your own Google Drive, so a copy exists outside the browser too.
• Supports 15 interface languages.

How it works

Everything runs locally in your own browser — your bookmarks and backup history are stored on your own device using Chrome's built-in storage, not on a server we run. Cloud Backup to Google Drive is entirely optional, off by default, and only starts once you explicitly connect your own Google account.

Why Maple Backup asks for Google Drive access

If you choose to turn on Cloud Backup, Maple Backup requests Google's drive.file permission — the most limited Drive scope Google offers. This is requested for exactly one purpose: to write your bookmark backup files into a folder it creates in your own Google Drive, so a copy exists outside your browser too.

With this scope, Maple Backup can only see and manage the specific files it itself creates — it cannot browse, read, or modify anything else already in your Drive. It never reads anything back out of Drive either; the connection is a one-way mirror, and you can disconnect it at any time from the extension's Preferences.
